What We Have Built Together

Over three decades of grassroots organizing have established three strong pillars of impact across rural Tamil Nadu.

Women's Economic Empowerment

Women’s Economic Empowerment

SAADOW has enabled thousands of rural women to achieve financial independence and leadership through:

  • Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Joint Liability Groups (JLGs)
  • Microfinance access and financial literacy
  • Entrepreneurship development and vocational skills training
  • Equal representation in village-level governance and decision-making
Investing in People and Generations

Investing in People & Generations

Believing that resilient societies require care across every age group, SAADOW implements targeted welfare programs for:

  • Children & Adolescents: Educational support, nutritional awareness, and child rights protection.
  • Youth: Vocational skill building, digital literacy, and sustainable career guidance.
  • Seniors & Vulnerable Families: Healthcare access, social dignity, and community safety nets.
Protecting Nature for Future Generations

Protecting Nature for Future Generations

To combat land degradation and climate instability, SAADOW has mobilized local stewardship through:

  • Watershed & Water Conservation: Rejuvenating natural mountain springs, check-dams, and rain-harvesting catchments.
  • Sustainable Agriculture: Promoting organic farming, traditional seed preservation, and soil health.
  • Biodiversity Conservation: Establishing community nurseries, planting native tree species, and protecting threatened flora in the Karanthamalai forest fringes.
SAADOW Community Work

Today, SAADOW stands as a mature, evidence-based grassroots organization leading community-driven initiatives across the Karanthamalai Hill Region. Our team works on the frontlines to:

  • Restore degraded forest landscapes and protect fragile biodiversity hotspots.
  • Rejuvenate natural water sources to secure drinking and irrigation water for hill communities.
  • Build climate resilience among smallholder farmers facing unpredictable monsoons.
  • Create green, sustainable livelihoods that allow women and forest communities to thrive without depleting natural resources.

Combining indigenous traditional knowledge with scientific conservation practices, SAADOW continues to prove that when empowered people protect their natural environment, both human communities and nature flourish together.
